June 11, 2011 is National Get Outdoors Day – did you know such a day existed? National Get Outdoors Day is a day set up to encourage people to put down the TV remote and get outside to enjoy nature. Prime goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors.
Outdoor recreation spots across the country have events planned for the day. Each state has several locations, so no matter where you live you’re probably not a far drive away. There are 112 locations, including:
Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center – California
Canyon Rim Park – Utah
Kittatinny Valley State Park – New Jersey
Antietam National Battlefield – Maryland
If you have kids – or even if you’re single – plan to get outside tomorrow and participate in GO Day. Plan a day hike, a canoe trip, a rock climb or a weekend camping trip. Any day outside is better than a day sitting on your but inside.
