Heading to the highest peak in the world – Mt. Everest – and want to blog about it? Put your portable satellite internet contraption on eBay… A private firm from Nepal placed the first 3G services at the base camp. Now you will have fast internet service to post updates on Facebook and tweet about what you ate for breakfast. All from your mobile phone.
“This achievement is as mighty as the altitude as 3G high speed internet will bring faster, more affordable telecommunication services to the people living in the Khumbu Valley, trekkers, and climbers alike,” said Lars Nyberg, chief of Nordic telecoms firm TeliaSonera, which owns 80 percent of the firm.
This begs the question though … when is free wifi coming? I’m sure AT&T is on it.
